Director, Product Development | ViVitro Labs
ViVitro Labs is an internationally recognized company that provides contract testing services and test equipment solutions to support the development of interventional and implantable innovative cardiovascular devices. R&D teams and cardiovascular researchers worldwide use ViVitro Labs’ cardiovascular device testing equipment, engineering solutions and services to develop innovative devices, improve the performance of the current technology or meet regulatory requirements for submissions.
The Director of Product Development will be vital in providing strategic guidance about ViVitro Labs’ product pipeline, market opportunities and core technology. Reporting to the President and as part of the ViVitro Labs management team, the Director of Product Development will support product development activities within ViVitro Labs by managing and coordinating all program resources from proof of concept to commercialization. The Director of Product Development will be responsible for all product development phases, from proof of concept to production. The Director of Product Development will implement the product development programs in accordance with ViVitro Labs’ strategic plan and oversee collaboration with critical corporate partners.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee all product development programs.
- Lead and manage a small team of diverse engineers.
- As required, oversee all product development project activities involving outside research organizations, partners, and critical suppliers.
- Move product design effectively through various product development cycles from proof of concept to production by clearing gate reviews.
- Develop overall product development budget and timeline estimates for product pipeline.
- Support the management team with budget planning and identifying future resource requirements.
- Manage budget and timelines as projects are executed.
- Report product development progress, milestones, success and failure and budget to the President.
- Wholly own project milestones and manage projects successfully through a gate review process.
- Coordinate product development projects to make sure deliverables are aligned.
- Manage cross-departmental resource sharing and align resources. Communicate and assess risks and trade-offs of resource constraints. Resolve constraints with input from the President as needed.
- Work with internal resources for training and onboarding new product development staff.
- Support the team to develop and provide input on project proposals, plans, and product requirements and approve requirement specifications.
- Provide scientific knowledge and design inputs to the product development team.
- Maintain risk assessment for individual project plans.
- Support the QA department in improving QMS in relation to product development procedures and document control.
- Own product development procedures and maintain and enhance relevant Quality Management System(QMS) sections.
- Ensure design documents and records at maintained and organized promptly by the team.
- Leverage internal and external training resources to maintain and expand technical knowledge and skills with the engineering team.
- Define and report metrics for product development success.
- Provide support to the company president:
- To refine ViVitro’s strategic plan and corresponding product pipelines.
- To identify new market opportunities.
- To expand core technology in relation to ViVitro’s strategic plan.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Strong and effective leadership skills with an ability to encourage the team to go beyond and set clear goals, expectations, timelines and deliverables.
- Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently, maintaining scheduled deliverables and planning resources.
- Excellent problem-solving skills in complex situations.
- Hands-on experience with electromechanical and machine control systems.
- Understanding of fundamental principles of mechanical fatigue.
- Knowledge of the implantable and interventional cardiovascular device market and regulatory requirements needed to develop designs and build test equipment that meets clients’ needs.
- Experience in device testing of other cardiovascular-related fields is considered a plus.
- Works independently with minimal supervision.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills are required.
- Structured individual with perfect understanding and hands-on experience with the design development process, design cycles and gate reviews.
- Ability to recognize technical limitations and expertise within the team and seek external support.
- Understand the regulatory implications of relevant ISO and ASTM standards and regulatory guidelines.
Work Experience
- 10 Years of diverse technical experience in industrial equipment and machine product development position.
- Minimum 5 years experience in a similar product development role.
- Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience in a similar product development role.
- Professional experience in the biomedical field is a huge asset.
Education Requirements
- Master’s degree in mechanical or electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Biomedical Degree.
