ViVitro Labs is an internationally recognized and expanding company that designs and manufactures supports laboratory test equipment for cardiovascular medical devices.  ViVitro has two ISO 17025 accredited laboratories to provide engineering services for evaluating the performance of cardiovascular devices such as heart valves prosthesis, stents, and catheters and many other interventional devices.

Reporting directly to the Director of Product Development, you will play a crucial role in leading various engineering tasks such as concept development, design, documentation, prototyping, and testing. Your contributions will directly impact the continued innovation of cardiovascular device test equipment.

Base Salary range is between

$78,412– $ 98,000 CAD with annual variable compensation. Employees are also eligible to earn profit sharing.

As Electronics Engineer, some of your work will include:

  • Conceive, architect, design, and test electronics for laboratory test systems.
  • Analyze and select components to meet product needs.
  • Apply engineering principles and tools in design to ensure products are of high quality and reliability to maintain StarFish/ViVitro’s brand.
  • Creates schematic diagrams, lays out printed circuit boards, and occasionally writes low-level firmware.
  • Simulate and verify electronics designs, document design decisions and results.
  • Assemble and test prototype systems and sub-systems.
  • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions or design defects.
  • Develop verification test plans and methods for formal product tests.
  • Execute verification tests and write detailed test reports.
  • Generates documentation for verification, transfer to manufacturing, and submission to regulatory approval authorities.
  • Collaborate in the writing of assembly instructions and manufacturing test procedures for production.
  • Applies electronics engineering expertise to ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices.
  • Follow a Quality Management System (QMS) in the design process.
  • Occasionally writes low-level firmware and collaborates on software design.
  • Provide technical assistance when needed.
  • Report on project progress as requested.
  • Maintain and continually expand your technical knowledge and skills.
  • Mentors and leads junior engineers and coop students.

You are suited to our approach and for this position if you possess these attributes:

  • Analog and digital electronics design experience.
  • Schematic and PCB design experience required; Altium software experience is considered an asset.
  • Hands-on experience soldering and reworking SMT (Surface Mount Technology).
  • Experience selecting, configuring and using electronics lab equipment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work on concurrent projects.
  • Capability and willingness to learn new things.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Additional desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities that will help you thrive:

  • Experience with electromechanical systems combining motor, sensor, controller and software technologies.
  • Measurement, data acquisition and signal processing experience.
  • Firmware programming experience in C.
  • Firmware development experience for MCUs.
  • Theory and practice of design for electromagnetic compliance.
  • Biomedical engineering background.

 About Compensation:

StarFish Medical Group, including ViVitro Labs as a wholly owned subsidiary, works with external compensation consultants annually to ensure our ranges reflect the market and our compensation philosophy. StarFish Medical Group utilizes a career framework that outlines the skills, abilities, and behaviours required to move between different levels of a job family. Placement within a range is based on those skills, abilities, and behaviours. When candidates are assessed for the posted position, we may find that their skills are more aligned with a different level and will discuss that as a separate opportunity. That position may have a different pay range. The range posted includes all geographic locations to ensure the available base pay range is shared. If a candidate is moving forward in the hiring process past the first interview, we can share the band specific to their geographic location.
