Burst Strength

Pressure at which the prothesis bursts.

Test Procedure

The sample is distended by filling the prosthesis directly with fluid at a measured rate of pressure change until bursting of the sample takes place.

Scope

  • Only possible for devices with low permeability which are able to hold pressure. Otherwise see the Balloon Method of determining burst strength

 

  • Any device using vascular prostheses
  • Vascular prosthesis

  • Stent Grafts: SX or BX frame, NiTi, CrCo, SS, Biological tissues, synthetic textile materials/* non-textile material, non-textile material
